Who is Damelin?

1943

Damelin College, a small remedial school, was founded by Mr Benjamin Damelin.

1949

Mr Max Witt joined Dr Kriel and played an important role in the development of the Group.

1955

Johann Brummer joined Damelin. Affectionately known as “Mr Damelin”.

1955

Damelin Correspondence College was established.

1962

Damelin Professional Evening School was established.

1962

Damelin was appointed as the official college for African Teachers Association of South Africa (ATASA).

1966

Damelin College opened a campus in Durban.

1968

Damelin Management School was established in Johannesburg.

1983

Cape Town campus was established.

1985

Pretoria campus was opened.

1985

Damelin Computer School was established in Johannesburg.

1988

Rosebank campus was opened.

1990

Mmabatho, Port Elizabeth and Gabarone campuses were established.

1990

Damelin Business Campus was opened.

1991

Benoni, Bloemfontein, Nelspruit, Pietersburg and Pietermaritzburg campuses were established.

1991

Rosebank campus moved to larger premises. The Damelin Degree Campus was established in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.

1992

The East London and Umtata campuses were established.

1992

Damelin Education Group Head Office moved into the Braamfontein premises.

1993

The Damelin School of Banking was established in Johannesburg.

1994

Allenby Campus was founded by Nick Matzukis, Vivien Keller and Val Bartram.

1996

Damelin was accredited as sole South African partner to Oxford Brookes University in the UK.

1997

Randburg campus was opened.

1998

Mr Damelin retired and was lauded by prominent South African businessman, Cyril Ramaphosa, for the vital role he and Damelin have played in his personal education, as well as in educating the nation.

1998

Brian Pearce was appointed Managing Director of the Damelin Education Group.

1998

Damelin Midrand Campus and Allenby Campus joined forces with Housewares to become the first private education corporation in South Africa - Educor.

1999

Damelin Computer School, Damelin School of Tourism, Hospitality and Sports Academy, Damelin Degrees at a Distance and Damelin International College of Postgraduate Business Sciences, appeared in the group stable.

2000

Themba Maseko was appointed as Managing Director of the Damelin Education Group.

2000

Educor was bought out by Naspers and Nozala Investments.

2001

Nick Matzukis was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Damelin Education Group.

2002

Allenby Campus, CityVarsity and Camelot International became part of the Damelin Education Group.

2003

Damelin School of Banking was franchised as Damelin Academy of Banking and Financial Services.

2003

Damelin incorporated all full-time study programmes under Damelin Graduate College.

2004

Rob Katz was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Damelin Education Group.

2004

Damelin Equestrian Centre was franchised.

2005

Damelin redesigned its Corporate Identity to communicate the evolution and energy of the brand institute relationships.

2008

Damelin expanded its Higher Education and Training programme offerings by including more Diplomas and Certificates.

2009

Damelin expanded its footprint in Southern Africa and opened more campuses, making quality education more accessible to more students.

2010

Damelin City Campuses opened their doors.

2010

Damelin Technical and Damelin School of Banking & Insurance were launched.

2011

New Damelin campuses opened and more Higher Education and Training qualifications were added to the programme offerings.

2012

Damelin Vaal and East London Campuses were opened.

2013

Damelin Bloemfontein Campus was opened. The Damelin Pietermaritzburg, Vaal, East London and Bloemfontein campuses received HET accreditation status.

2014

Damelin Menlyn and Westridge campuses were moved to new premises positioned for accessibility and convenience

2015

Damelin launched two innovative new degrees under their Higher Education offering.

2016

The Academic Advising Centre (AAC) has been introduced as a support service to every student who registers at Damelin.
